Any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin.
Altcoin is short for alternative coin: any cryptocurrency that is not Bitcoin. The term covers everything from large established coins to brand-new projects.
Many altcoins are GPU-mineable, which is what makes a GPU a flexible mining tool: the same card can mine a range of altcoins depending on which is most profitable.
