Crypto Winter

An extended market downturn across the whole sector.

Crypto winter is the nickname for a deep, sector-wide downturn lasting a year or more, with low prices, low activity and failed projects.

For miners, winters are consolidation periods: inefficient rigs shut down, difficulty falls, and the miners who remain earn a larger share of each block. Several such winters have come and gone since Bitcoin launched.
