Epoch
A fixed span of blocks a chain treats as one period.
An epoch is a block interval a chain uses as its unit for something periodic: a difficulty retarget, a validator set change, or the regeneration of mining data such as a DAG.
What an epoch controls is coin specific, so the word only means something alongside the chain being discussed. On some coins an epoch boundary is when a miner's memory requirement steps up.
