EVM
Ethereum's smart-contract engine, copied by many chains.
The EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) is the engine that runs Ethereum's smart contracts. Many other chains implement the same engine so that contracts and wallets port over unchanged; these are called EVM-compatible.
In mining, "EVM chains" usually refers to proof-of-work networks derived from Ethereum's design, which share its getWork mining interface.
