Lightning Network
Bitcoin's payment-channel layer for instant small payments.
The Lightning Network is Bitcoin's layer 2 of payment channels: parties lock funds on-chain, transact instantly off-chain any number of times, and settle the net result back to the blockchain.
It exists because base-chain block space is scarce; small, frequent payments move to Lightning while miners keep securing the settlement layer underneath.
