Off-Chain
Activity outside the blockchain: fast, but trust-based.
Off-chain describes activity that happens outside the blockchain ledger: an exchange updating internal balances, a layer-2 channel netting payments, a pool tracking your pending shares.
Off-chain is fast and free but rests on trusting the operator until settlement. The healthy pattern is off-chain for speed, on-chain for settlement, which is exactly how pool balances become hourly on-chain payouts.
