Satoshi Nakamoto is the pseudonym of Bitcoin's creator, who published the white paper in 2008, mined the genesis block in 2009 and disappeared from public view in 2011 without ever being identified.
Everything mining is descends from that design: proof of work, block rewards, halvings and difficulty adjustment all appear in Satoshi's original paper and code.
