SHA-256
The hashing algorithm that secures Bitcoin.
SHA-256 is the cryptographic hash function at the heart of Bitcoin's proof of work. Bitcoin mining is a race to find a block hash below a target using it.
SHA-256 mining is dominated by ASICs. Some Bitcoin-related chains, such as Fractal Bitcoin, also use it and can be merge-mined with Bitcoin.
