Uncle Block (Ommer)
A near-miss block that some chains still reward.
An uncle block (also called an ommer) is a valid block that just missed being on the main chain. Some chains reward uncles partially to reduce the penalty of bad luck and improve security.
Not every chain rewards them; on chains that do not, a near-miss simply becomes an orphan that pays nothing.
